Summary
This practical, interactive programme is designed for managers and supervisors who are ultimately responsible for ensuring workplace safety and compliance. Participants will gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to manage occupational safety and health (OSH) effectively within their organisations.
At the end of the programme participants will be able to:
• Analyse the key principles of Irish OSH legislation, including the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (SHWW) Act 2005 and associated regulations, and understand their implications for organisational compliance and liability.
• Evaluate and apply OSH management system elements such as risk management, documentation, and emergency planning in real-world scenarios.
• Design and implement systematic hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures tailored to specific workplace hazards.
• Propose and justify strategies to foster a positive safety culture, enhance communication, and integrate OSH into broader organisational policies.
• Critically assess OSH performance using tools such as incident investigation, data analysis, and auditing, and formulate actionable recommendations for continuous improvement.

Darrell Fernandes
A qualified electrician and electronics service technician, Darrell has extensive knowledge in the areas of Occupational Safety and Health Management, Emergency Management, Crisis Management, Business Impact Analysis, Business Continuity Planning, Management Systems Development, Coaching and Mentoring, Facilitation and Communication Skills.
He also worked as an instructor and member of the Defence Force’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) incident response panel and was a regular contributing columnist for the Health and Safety Review providing expert insight and analysis regarding all aspects of Occupational Safety and Health Management.
